Detroit Pistons History

One of the most storied franchises in NBA history, the Pistons moved to Detroit in 1957 from Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they were owned by Fred Zollner and known as the Fort Wayne (Zollner) Pistons. The Pistons played at Olympia Stadium for four years, then moved to Cobo Arena. In 1974, Bill Davidson purchased the team, and in 1978, he moved them to play at the Pontiac Silverdome.

Prior to the start of the 1988–89 season, the Pistons moved to play at The Palace of Auburn Hills and won back-to-back NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990 with the "Bad Boys" teams. Detroit's "Goin' to Work" squad picked up the franchise's third NBA Championship in 2004 in the midst of making six consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference Finals.

In addition to the numerous team accomplishments, the Pistons also have had a list of great players and coaches who have contributed to the team's long history of success. Detroit has retired jersey numbers for Chuck Daly (2), Isiah Thomas (11), Joe Dumars (4), Dave Bing (21), Bob Lanier (16), Dennis Rodman (10), Vinnie Johnson (15), Bill Laimbeer (40), Ben Wallace (3), Chauncey Billups (1) and Richard Hamilton (32). Daly, Thomas, Dumars, Bing, Lanier, Rodman and Davidson all have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

  • Great experience.

I loved the total atmosphere at the LCA. Detroit basketball ....... playoff basketball is back!!! The final results were disappointing, however, getting to the playoffs this season was a blessing. I can't wait to see what's done in the off season to keep the momentum into next season. Go Pistons!

  • We WILL be back bigger and better

by Bluzi on 5/4/25Little Caesars Arena - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

Decent seat for the price. The crowd was hyped but the loss was gut wrenching. Left in tears. We should have won that game. Experience and bad officiating costs us. Overall, I'm proud of the team. I have no doubt that we will return next year, using that loss as a learn to become bigger and better. Let's Go Pistons!!!

  • Unhappy with pricing.

Fun experience, but better seats are too much money. Sat in the DRM 11, not a great view as the people in front of me were tall/big. The angle to the court from my view was blocked. We are being priced out. Affordable = bad view.

  • Greatness awaits

Support the home team. Go Detroit Pistons. Amazing views and small seats but there are bigger seating options.

  • Great Seat, Great Game!

I really enjoyed the Pistons' game against the Knicks, which resulted in a big win for us, because it was a precursor to the playoffs. My seat was a good one, with a very good view of the court, and I'll be pulling for the Pistons as long as they make a run at the playoffs.
