HIATUS KAIYOTE IN CONCERT:

Australian neo-soul quartet Hiatus Kaiyote has been stirring up significant stateside buzz with their hip hop-influenced sound, jaw-dropping musicianship, and vibe-heavy live performances. At the group's jazzy, laid-back shows stylish frontwoman Nai Palm flaunts serious guitar fretwork while the rest of the band ups the ante with virtuosic keys, bass, and drums. Their instrumental skills are impressive but the real star of the show is Palm's sultry and soulful voice, which she playfully weaves through groove-heavy tracks like "Nakamarra" and "By Fire". With their cosmic lyrics, outré stagewear, and prodigious chops, Hiatus Kaiyote take ticket buyers on an unforgettable future-soul trip every time they tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hiatus Kaiyote formed in Melbourne in 2011 and released their debut album Tawk Tomahawk the following year. The record was a hit with critics for its progressive combination of hip hop, soul, and jazz, and frontwoman Nai Palm's rich vocals firmly established her as an R&B powerhouse. Rapper Q-Tip caught wind of the release, and in 2013 he teamed up with the band on the collaborative track "Nakamarra". The song was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance -- the first time an Australian group had ever been nominated in the R&B category. After extensive touring the group followed up in 2014 with the EP By Fire, and in 2015 they released their sophomore album Choose Your Weapon. The record peaked at No. 22 on the Australian charts, drawing the band out for an acclaimed tour that has ticket buyers dying to catch them live.

  • great concert - very creative band

by Arkleybu on 7/24/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Hiatus Kaiyote is one of the most unique groups to come along in decades. Their sheer creativity is underscored by their command of the instruments they play. The vocal arrangements were unimaginable as were the compositions. The positive energy coming off the stage was infectious and the vibe they created was amazing.

  • Hiatus Kaiyote Rocks

by MusicLover on 7/23/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

I arrived to the theatre late, because I’ve been consistently unhappy with opening bands. Went directly to the bar & was immediately sad I’d missed the opening act. I won’t do that again. Live & learn. Hiatus Kaiyote was great , the sound spot on & the theatre as always really nice. The staff was kind & patient. Only drag: no garage, no safe place to park! Why was the Paramount Theatre Garage closed?

The show was everything I hoped for ! The telegram room was worth every penny. I’ve never been treated so well anywhere ever. The show was absolutely amazing and would go see them anytime. They have amazing stage presence.

  • An incredible band at the top of their game

by AntiCliche on 7/21/24Remlinger Farms - CarnationRating: 5 out of 5

Sound quality excellent. Performance transcendent. Played music from their entire catalog, including much of the new album Love Heart Cheat Code, music so hard to perform live it boggles the mind (By Fire, Molasses), and a downright crazy rendition of Swamp Thing.

  • Ten Times Transformed by Hiatus Kaiyote’s Musical Mastery"

    by Hawaiian soul🌺 on 7/21/24Remlinger Farms - CarnationRating: 5 out of 5

Hiatus Kaiyote's latest performance was a majestic intergalactic ride through sound. Having seen the band live over 10 times in the past 12 years, I can confidently say that their ability to create a different journey of wonder and exploration with each show remains unparalleled. Every song from their new album felt essential and heartfelt, showcasing the band's growth while maintaining their signature genre-bending approach. The setlist seamlessly blended new material with beloved classics, creating a cohesive and captivating experience. Nai Palm's vocals soared, somehow sounding even more impressive live than on record. Complementing her were the backup singers, whose amazing vocals added depth and richness to the overall sound, elevating the performance to new heights. The band's cohesion was palpable, with their improvisational skills shining during transitions. After a decade of following Hiatus Kaiyote and experiencing their live shows numerous times, it's clear that their performances continue to evolve, offering a unique and transformative experience each time. This concert reaffirmed why they remain a must-see act for fans of progressive R&B Future Soul, NeoSoul, and innovative music ❤️

HK attracted a great crowd. I made new friends and connected with old ones. Their music was excellent, the lights were beautiful, the outdoor venue was spacious and calm.

  • Hiatus Kaiyote was UNREAL

by Dylly on 7/20/24Remlinger Farms - CarnationRating: 5 out of 5

Reminder Farms was a great venue for a concert. Wide open area with plenty of places to sit in the shade, by the lake, it was great. Hiatus Kaiyote was an unbelievable show. They are incredibly underrated and put on just an amazing show. 10/10 would recommend.

  • Hiatus Kaiyote Does It Again!

by SBoogie on 7/14/24The Salt Shed Indoors (Shed) - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The Hiatus Kaiyote show at The Salt Shed in July 9 was an excellent show. Nai Palm, Paul, Perrin and Simon gave their usual amazing performances. I saw them perform at The Riviera Theater in 2023, and it was so good to see them in a larger Chicago venue. Can't wait to see them on their next tour! I have to add that Love Heart Cheat Code is an absolute banger of an album!
