Los Angeles Clippers History

The Clippers joined the NBA in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, an expansion team located in Buffalo, N.Y. The franchise selected future star forward Bob McAdoo in 1972 with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. He was named NBA MVP in the 1974–75 season, and remains the only player in the history of the Clippers franchise to win that honor.

The franchise, led by new owner Irv Levin, moved to San Diego in 1978 and was renamed as the Clippers. The franchise's stay in San Diego didn't last long. Levin sold the team to Donald Sterling in 1981, and he moved the franchise 120 miles north to Los Angeles.

The Clippers began their best era of success in 2010, when they drafted Blake Griffin with the No. 1 overall pick. One season later they acquired Chris Paul in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets, and "Lob City" was born. They advanced to the second round of the playoffs that same season, recording their second playoff series win in 36 years. The Clippers followed that by setting a new franchise record with 56 wins in the 2012–13 season, which began a streak of five consecutive seasons with 50 or more wins and a playoff berth.

During the 2022–23 season, the Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, again returned to the playoffs. They fell to the Suns in the first round.

  • The Intuit Dome was magnificant!

by Ingrid on 10/17/24Intuit Dome - InglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

The Intuit Dome was beautifully done. The experience was nice. My only dissatisfaction was the food. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and waffle fries. The food was not hot and the chicken was dried out. They need to have a sit down option and/or have fresher food. The food experience needs improvement especially with the high cost of the food.

  • Ehhh.

by Hawkeye on 10/17/24Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

This venue always runs out of food. So if u want something get it early. The people behind us wouldn't shut the whole time there. But the Pokemon component was cool.

  • WHAT A FUN NIGHT! RAIN CITY SHOWCASE did not disappoint

by MDC on 10/15/24Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

We had such a great (and a bit unexpected) time at the Rain City Showcase. Climate Pledge did not disappoint with court setup, music, digital branding, bar and food options. The seats were fantastic and the celebs and old school NBA-ballers were everywhere! Great that Steve B and the LA Clippers hosted an NBA game in Seattle...just a taste of what's to come when the Sonics come back!

  • Amazing!!!

by Justin O on 10/14/24Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I took my son to his first NBA game for his 13th birthday. I could not believe how friendly and helpful all the staff and security were. The atmosphere was exciting and so much fun. The arena was clean and service was fast when using the app to have food brought to our seats. Overall one of the best experiences we’ve ever had!!

  • Fun night overall

by Jeff on 10/14/24Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

It was great having the NBA in town! However, the PA sound on the 200 level was horrible. We could hear, but couldn’t make out any words.

  • Bring the NBA up here!

by LadyBri on 10/14/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Great game, great experience, the clippers owner is obviously passionate about basketball. We need to bring the NBA back to Seattle!

  • Excellent

by Shy on 10/13/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

My experience was wonderful, great view and atmosphere definitely need to bring the Sonics back home

  • Great to have NBA in Seattle!

by Ali B on 10/13/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to host the LA Clippers in Seattle vs. the Utah Jazz. The entertainment was great, the food options were amazing and the atmosphere was ELECTRIC! Bring back NBA to Seattle!

  • Bring back our Super Sonics

by Super Sonics Forever on 10/13/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

I got great seats to the game and really enjoyed the experience, this year and last year. But I would enjoy it a lot more if I was watching our Seattle Super Sonics play! We fans have clearly displayed our enthusiasm for NBA in Seattle by buying tickets, showing up, wearing our Sonics merch and displaying signs asking for our team back. We deserve a team! Super Sonics Forever!

  • A fun time for our family

by JS on 10/13/23Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Our family had such a blast at the Clippers game. We only wish there was an NBA team in the PNW so we could go to more games like it!

  • There was no wait to enter the event & parking was available

by Cold Slim (Rochester New York) on 10/21/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 5 out of 5

Seating area was clean, great view of the game and the concession stand food was good! Me and my son enjoyed the game. Money well spent.

  • Great game and great price

    by S. W. on 10/17/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 4 out of 5

It was a preseason game and I loved it. For the price I can’t complain about the extremely close seating. The food wasn’t good at all but I had a fun time.

  • Quick and easy

by Jonas on 10/15/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 5 out of 5

The ticket purchasing process was smooth, very efficient and instructions clear. Enjoyed the game. My team won.

  • Great experience except for concession lines

by Luis on 10/15/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 4 out of 5

I love Toyota Arena because even seats on the second level are good seats. Everything was great except for the concession lines. That needs to be improved.

  • Sorry I didn’t make it to the game

by Boobie on 10/15/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 3 out of 5

Sorry I didn’t make it to the game sorry I can’t do that I am really a Lakers fan I was only going because the tickets were only five dollars and it is close to my house

  • Nice arena but…

by Sports fan on 10/15/22Toyota Arena - OntarioRating: 4 out of 5

They need more food options. There’s lots of bars, but few concession stands.

  • Great view, okay seats

by New Parents on 10/6/22Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Game was awesome, great to watch a NBA game back in Seattle! The seats provided a great view but the seats did not match the view. They were just foldable chairs lined up close together. I have season tickets in the upper seats for the Kraken and those seats were more comfortable.

  • No frills

by Crusher Yee on 10/6/22Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

I was disappointed that there was no NBA merchandise or souvenirs of any kind. I also thought there might be fun basketball related activities in the arena, such as a hoop or pop a shot or a Sonics remembrance exhibit, but there was nothing but the exhibition game itself. So, I enjoyed the special guests they had during the game, but I think an NBA souvenir stand, amongst other NBA related activities in the arena would have helped elevate this event and make it more worthwhile.

  • Stadium is Excellent

by Benny With the Semi on 10/6/22Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Climate Pledge should honestly host more NBA games. Potentially during the season, NBA fandom for sonics is already here. Clippers put on a show, Portland was…Dame was nice to see lol. If the NBA really wants to bring a team here then they would do their potential mid season tournament here or the playin tournament should be located here for neutral location.

  • Basketball is back in Seattle

by RayRay on 10/6/22Climate Pledge Arena - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It was great having an NBA game back in the Emerald City. The Energy, tribe mentality, and atmosphere was a perfect way to show the world we are ready for a professional NBA team AGAIN. Bring Back The Sonics.
