  • I had a good time. I love Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond.

I loved my seats. the performances were great. I thought the pre-show ran way too long. There was just way too many contestants performing and the show ran late in the evening. It made for a long day and exhausting evening.

  • Disappointment

Three hours of singers, groups, etc was just too much and too long. It seemed more like an evening of listening to mostly amateurs with an evening to honor Aretha Franklin. The veteran singers had very little time to sing.As for the microphones, they were not working properly all evening off and on. Other singers had that problem before Paster's Shifley Caesar came on the stage. When I left that evening I didn't know if I would come back to the next performance.

  • Room for Improvement

Last Saturday made the third time consecutively that I've attended the Gospelfest and usually I have a great time. However, the third time proved not to be a charm. I was underwhelmed by the show mainly because the artists seemed rushed. Every last one of them mentioned during their performances how they were on strict time constraints and it affected their performances negatively. In fact the performances took up less time than the countless award presentations. Yolanda Adams performed the best by far but they’ve done better previously. There was also a problem with the mics. Make it like it was A. Curtis Farrow!

  • Was not happy with the show. Took my grandson he fell asleep

Competition was to long. Tickets said stars would come out at 7pm, didn't come out until 8:15. Sound system was terrible. Show was just to long.

  • Great Lineup-Horrible Sound

by Sonjay on 5/15/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The sound was HORRIBLE! Mics going in & out....and the shade thrown towards Legendary Shirley Caesar was UNACCEPTABLE! A Curtis Farrow eluded to the fact that she missed sound check when she rightfully admonished the sound team. This is not the first time I've seen them disrespect Momma Shirley at the Gospelfest. One year they turned her mics off. She's a LEGEND--show some respect! I guess most of the acts missed the sound check because the mics were horrible for EVERYONE! The show dragged this year. Even Greg Kelly, who's normally very funny & entertaining, seemed to be thrown off by the way things were going. As much as I love this show & the concept of celebrating our music, if something doesn't change, I'm not so sure I'll be attending again.

  • First Time

Venue changed from NJPAC to Prudential Center. Did not like the change. Was not familiar with the format of the McDonald fest. 5p-9p competition 9p-11p for concert. It was well organized and timely. I felt everyone was rushed, they even referenced their limited time limit as the hurried through their set.

  • Gospelfest 2019

    by e. w. on 5/14/19Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

The show was drawn out. The competition portion ran into the artists performance portion. The emcee was unprofessional when Sister Shirley Cesar pointed out the microphones were malfunctioning and throughout her performance she had to keep exchanging them with her backup singers. During the earlier performances it was obvious the microphones were malfunctioning because you heard the musicians over those singing. When the artists began to perform it seemed they were rushed again due to time constraints. The Emcee made a comment, “Sound check you need to be there.” The congratulatory portion was a little excessive as well.

  • Could have been better
