Seattle Sounders FC History

The Seattle Sounders joined MLS in 2009 and quickly built a Western Conference powerhouse, winning four U.S. Open Cups, one Supporters' Shield (2014), and two MLS Cup Championships in 2016 and 2019.

Jordan Morris was named the 2019 MLS Comeback Player of the Year after recovering from a torn ACL that sidelined him for nearly all of 2018. In 2019, the Sounders earned the No. 2 seed in the MLS Western Conference and qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the 11th straight season. In 2021, the Sounders became the first MLS club to advance to the finals match of the annual North American Leagues Cup tournament, and in 2022, the team won the interleague CONCACAF Champions Cup.

  • Atmosphere in the MLS close to the European Soccer

by VJnator on 9/20/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first MLS event in the U.S. and I need to say - the Seattle Sounders Fans are impressive and fantastic. I grew up in Germany andplayed myself 27+ years soccer in Europe, attented 100's and 100's of Bundesliga and Europe Leaque games as fan and the atmosphere and kindness the Seattle fans display is outstanding and from the enthusiasm on the same level as their counter parts in Europe. The nicest thing here in Seattle is that the soccer games are family events and you don't see any violence between the fans at all. Sounders fans you are getting an A+++ from me, and the organzation of the Seattle Sounders - my compliments you are having a great team.

  • The Sounders FC game was great

by Marysam on 9/20/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The game was great. Unfortunately it ended in a 0-0 tie. The seats we were assigned, however, were taken over by the Sounders band as it had been raining. As I am disabled, I wasn't sure where we were going to sit but the Qwest field guest services personnel were especially helpful and caring and found us alternate seating immediately. We were very close to the band, however, and my husband thought it was extremely loud. It didn't bother me, I loved the noise. We were quite pleased with our seats behind the goal, and the view of the game was much better than I expected.

  • Soccer was Exciting

by StaceyWilcox on 9/20/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

The game ended in 0-0 tie but the opportunities were exciting they were so close. The Sounders were in control and the highlights on the screen let you see everything again.

  • Qwest field rocks!

by Himcrazy on 9/20/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

I have never been to an event at Qwest field before, and was a little concerned about having seats where we couldn't see much because I can't afford the good seats. After going, I honestly don't think that there is a bad seat in Qwest. The way it is designed the entire field is visible from almost every place in the arena, and even the really cheap seats are close enough to see all the action. I'm considering season tickets for next year!

The sounders played really great soccer. They totally dominated chivas. Even though the game ended in a 0-0 tie, it was really exciting to watch and I can't wait to go to another game!

  • Seats were wonderful

by gibb on 9/3/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

My handicapped son had the time of his life. Seats were the best in the house at a great price. Walked to the hotel after the game. All was perfect.

  • Fun Football (Soccer) experience

by RaeStephenson on 8/31/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first MLS soccer match in person. It was colorful and entertaining. I enjoyed the soccer action and I never found it to be dull. There was no score and I read later that the play was not as good as it could be. I would like to learn more about football and see more soccer matches. The stadium experience was excellent ( and much better than what my wife and I experienced at a Seahawk game four years ago. The food was good and the lines were not bad.

  • Sounders was worth the $$

by tulipsweeti on 8/30/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Qwest is an awesome venue to see anything and the sounders game was a ton of fun. My son really enjoyed himself and it was family appropriate.

  • Sounders looked tired

by rrrandi on 8/30/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

Sounders looked tired and their play as a team was OFF. The playback on the video screens showed the crowd when it should have been showing replays -- it was the worst screen viewing Ive seen

  • Sounders vs New England

by ShortieClarkston on 8/28/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Game started on time, seats were very good, helpers were very polite and club snack bars were awesome. Sounders lost but very exciting game. Class act all around.

  • Sounders games are awesome

by SounderFamily on 8/25/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Not happy with the result (1-0 loss) but Sounders games rock at Qwest field. Over 30,000 fans singing and cheering. Team is always competitive.

  • Sounders games highly entertaining and amazing.

    by Peebs00 on 8/21/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

The Sounders experience is amazing. The crowd is electric, the product on the field is outstanding, and it is amazing to see from anywhere in the stadium.

  • Souders Rocked Refs Sucked...we needed Ljungberg

by Tobiemabobie on 8/21/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Decent game…we had control of the ball most of the time just couldn’t get it done. We desperately need Ljungberg. He is not only gorgeous but a truly amazing footballer who gets it done unlike Montero the cheery picker who needs to get on it more. With this placing us in 3rd I am hoping we can pull through to make the play offs. Luv my sounders! Sounders Nation Rules!

  • Great game bad ending.

    by Beans2369 on 8/21/09Qwest Field - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Great to finally get to my first MLS game, Driving all the way from New Mexico to Seattle to watch it. Atmosphere was what you would expect from a European match, March to the Match is a genius idea, Gets the fans ready to sing and get to the stadium together. Game was exciting from start to finish with New England getting a lucky toe poke goal. Would recommend a trip to Qwest Field to see the Seattle Sounders to anyone even if you are not a fan now, You will be after the 90 minutes.

  • I AM A SOUNDERS FAN!!!
