The music and musicians were fantastic. The sound was great. Everyone gave their all to make the presentation meaningful and lots of education about Stax Records. It's a great thing they are doing to reach out to the young community with music education. Right on!
Fantastic show.....legends in the business plus other great singers n other great musicians
Great concept, great music as the older generation passes the torch.
Old School music at its best! What a fabulous, fun, down home musical journey from our past. The artists new and Old were a treat! We all loved the show from start to finish!
Loved the intergenerational and interracial aspect of the show. I heard comments as I was leaving that some people did not like the rapping. I thought the mixture of rap with blues was a nice twist. The short film clip set us up for that surprise and I found it refreshing. The young must learn from the old, and the old can learn from the young!
What an amazing night of some of the best R&B and soul music performed by some of the greatest in the music industry. An unforgettable night.
The scheduled entertainers didn’t perform as much as expected. The show was extremely short. The up and coming artist performed more than the the 3 blues artist. Not happy at all with this show!
These guys have still got all the moves and they sing wonderfully. Go see them while they are still performing - who knows how much longer some of them will still be able to. I loved it.
We felt a little duped by all the rap/hip hop younger artists that were intermixed with real blues. We came to hear Memphis blues, and what we heard of that was great. Nothing in the description of the program indicated we would be hearing so much hip hop. It would have been great to have heard some younger performers keeping the blues alive. Wouldn’t have bought tickets if I had known!
We went to the show with high expectations and looked forward to an evening of blues from some of the legendary performers. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The first half was dominated by a single singer with not a great voice, singing covers of Al Green and others. The first half performance was also sprinkled with rap which, I am pretty sure, wasn't part of the historical greatness of R&B. The second half of the show was much better with a rousing version of "Take Me To The River" and several other really outstanding performances of R&B and the blues.
A wonderfully soulful evening of past legends performing w/ rising stars. Go Stax Academy!
First time at the PAC; impressed with everything! Enjoyed the show, seating, program assistants - we will be returning.
This show was amazing! It filled my soul with the music I love! Talented top of the line performers played and sang for almost two hours. They were so much fun!!! I'd go again!
The talent on the stage was amazing. The thought that for $24, we are able to see these living legends who are well into their golden years yet can play and move like in their prime, is simply beyond comprehension. Most do not realize that the Hodges brothers, who are a vital part of this group, were part of much of the music that we heard every day growing up. They still have it, and they are so humble, yet so damn talented. I'd pay hundreds of dollars to see Flick work his magic on that bass, or Rev. Charles on the Hammond B-3. I felt like I won the music lottery when I left that auditorium. Thank you, everyone involved in the TMTTR venture. I'll sing your praises forever.
Another great Blues Night However , a lot of people left after The Take me to the River review because they thought the night was over Finally someone came on stage and said There was more to come Hated that people did not hear that great final act
