TOM ODELL IN CONCERT:

Acclaimed British singer-songwriter Tom Odell isn't much concerned with musical trends. While many of his contemporaries have started dressing up their tunes with elements borrowed from dance music and hip hop, Odell has stuck to his indie pop guns, favoring simple, piano-based arrangements that let his heart-rending voice and confessional lyrics shine. In concert he performs seated at the piano, conjuring up evocative chords and melodies while his band adds gentle guitar, glacial glockenspiel, and haunting vocal oohs and ahhs to the mix. Odell wears his heart on his sleeve, and seeing him perform deeply personal songs like "Real Love" and "Magnetised" in the flesh only heightens their emotional impact. He wowed fans in 2016 with his sophomore album Wrong Crowd, and followed up with powerfully emotional sets on tour that treated ticket buyers to the full range of his awe-inspiring talents.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chichester, England-born Tom Odell studied classical piano as a child and started writing songs at age 13. After high school he abandoned plans to attend university and instead focused on music, performing at open mic nights around the Liverpool area. He enrolled in the Brighton Institute of Modern Music shortly after and started the band Tom and the Tides, but ultimately decided to go solo. He got a break in the early '10s when British pop sensation Lilly Allen saw one of his London performances and signed him to her label, resulting in his 2012 debut EP Songs from Another Love. He followed up in 2013 with his first album Long Way Down, a No. 1 smash on the UK Albums Chart that produced a string of popular singles including the Top 10 hit "Another Love." A slew of accolades followed, including the BRITs Critics' Choice Award and a nomination for the prestigious BBC Sound of 2013 poll. Odell spent the next few years touring, and in 2016 he released his sophomore album Wrong Crowd, a No. 2 hit on the UK Albums Chart that he supported on the No Bad Days Tour.

  • This artist is UNDERRATED

by Love them on 4/19/22L'Olympia - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

His deep voice brings up some raw emotions! This artist is UNDERRATED, his LIVE performance (voice, piano, emotions) are such much better than his recorded audio. I was sad when the concert was over. I could’ve stayed and listen to his voice more. I can’t wait for him go come back to Montreal.

  • Great experience

I have seen Tom in concert 3 times and every time he blows me away. His voice live is even better than recorded - so powerful and beautiful!

  • THE BEST PERFORMER!! So grateful to see this amazing artist!

OMG!!! I cannot wait to see Tom Odell again. I've been to quite a few concerts this year but this one takes the cake, even at a venue where there wasn't a place to dance (I love to dance). Tom was AMAZING!!!! He is one of the most talented performers that I've seen in years. He was completely engaging, came out into the audience and had a member of the audience sing one of his songs - completely (she was actually really good) - sang Happy Birthday to someone in the audience... really, he was just amazing.

  • Great show!

by Annie on 5/15/19Neptune Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Tom and his band did a great show, well worth the visit to Seattle! Loved the fact that he sang a happy birthday song to Grace. Nice venue, comfy seating too.

  • More than just a piano ballad

by Alex on 5/4/19Varsity Theater - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

I liked Tom ODell and his music before I saw him live. I was expecting something low key and subdued. It had those moments but also moments of pure musical jamming! Very entertaining and a good amount of music variation. My expectations were honestly blown

  • Super talented singer-songwriter

His music is the best and his live performance is full of energy!!!

  • Good but bad

by Em on 4/30/19The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Tom Odell was great, he has an amazing voice. But, the Phoenix centre shouldn’t sell all those tickets there was WAY TOO MANY people. I was waiting outside in the cold for 40 minutes. Inside we could barely move and people can’t shoving by throughout the entire show. It got very distracting. For future they should keep it less capacitated.

  • Tom Odell

by Nancy on 4/27/19Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens Bank - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Tom in both Philly and then in Brighton. Philly was my first time seeing Tom. Great show. I saw him in Brighton 5 days later and was blown away. He came in to the audience and sang with a fan (lucky girl). The set was longer by 2 songs. So much energy! I was really hoping to hear Sirens and Queen of Diamonds but he did not play either at these venues. Already waiting for him to come back.

  • Fantastic!!

Tom Odelle and his band in the Cozy confines an excellent sound of the Brighton music Hall was fantastic. Jazzy, flowing dynamic interpretations of his songs. He is not to be missed when ever in the area.

  • Best concert ever- high energy

by Rita on 4/27/19Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens Bank - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I attend a lot of concerts. Expected a acoustic low key performance. Tom rocked the venue and it was fantastic. The band was tight, the set was tight and I will never forget this performance. I would have gone to the next few shows on his tour if possible.

  • Small Venue, Huge Talent

by Anonymous on 10/28/16The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Tom Odell is magic. His lyrics and passion make my heart go all pitter pat. He loves performing and it shows. His five piece band has an incredibly full sound and EVERY song is a showstopper. I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd- one of the most polite, respectful audiences I've seen in 20 years of LA concerts. Best $25 I've ever spent!

  • An underrated talent

by Anonymous on 10/20/16Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

If you have a chance to see Tom Odell on his US tour, you should! My friend and I went in having only ever heard a few of his songs in passing and came out blown away. Tom Odell is clearly a very talented songwriter (we googled him afterwards), a dedicated musician, and an exciting performer. That he is also a singer with a powerful voice that was never drowned out by the percussion-heavy band (and the few obnoxiously loud folks at the bar in the back of Howard Theatre) seems to just be icing on the cake. Will be keeping an eye out for the next time he comes to the States.

  • Very energetic!

by LoveOcean on 10/13/16Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Tom Odell was great! Everyone in his group did very good job. I had a lot of fun.

I have been a Tom Odell fan for several years. He is an extraordinary talent, so I was thrilled to see that his current tour included DC. His concert was excellent. His band was a stellar group of musicians that helped make his music come alive. His lyrics are revealing and his piano skills are impressive,, Can't wait to see him again.

  • Tom Odell turned the world upside down!

by ambogd on 10/11/16Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a miraculous evening. Everything inside just died for a moment to revive and bloom at every song, with every tune. Wonderful venue, very cosy and good acoustics.
