BADBADNOTGOOD IN CONCERT:

Canadian jazz trio BadBadNotGood have quickly earned a place at the genre's vanguard with their atmospheric, hip hop-tinged compositions. The band's unique post-bop sound incorporates live drums, synthesizers, and programmed beats, and it all comes together perfectly at their electrifying live shows. Whether they're improvising on the fly or building up layers of texture on the moody single "CS60", BBNG's musicianship and passion always make for a truly jaw-dropping live experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

BadBadNotGood was formed in 2010 by three members of the Humber College jazz program in Toronto. Featuring Chester Hansen on bass, Alexander Sowinski on drums and sampler, and Matthew Tavares on keyboards, the trio got their start posting unique covers of their hip hop idols on YouTube. BBNG's jazz tribute to LA hip hop collective Odd Future caught the eye of founding member Tyler the Creator, who gave the group a boost by helping the video go viral. Their debut album BBNG was released on Bandcamp in 2011, earning critical praise with unique covers of songs by A Tribe Called Quest, Waka Flocka Flame, and Odd Future. Sophomore album BBNG2 earned similar acclaim the following year for its imaginative covers of tracks by Kanye West, James Blake, and Feist. In addition to acting as the house band at Coachella in 2012, BBNG has opened for jazz legend Roy Ayers, collaborated with Earl Sweatshirt, and headlined shows around the country. Following the 2014 release of their third album III, BBNG has ticket buyers around the world eagerly awaiting their next round of tour dates.

Just wow! One of the best concerts I have experienced.

  • So so

Audio wasn’t the best. I love listening to this band’s recordings but live the sound was way too loud and chaotic. The large concert hall didn’t help, I think. I’d rather watch this band in a more intimate setting. The energy of the performance felt like that of a rock band which I think didn’t fit the type of music they make. Some of audience was awful too. Again I didn’t expect there being shouting groupies like you would expect at a Justin Bieber concert, but there were people going absolutely crazy for no reason. I liked the projections, those were cool. The band is obviously very talented.

They were so incredible and the visual projections were stunning.

  • Magical

An amazing experience! They played with authenticity that isn’t found often on stage anymore. No taped fill ins, no auto tune, just pure musicianship. From the first notes I was enthralled.

  • Magical

The fact that the group used visuals to contemplate there music facinates me. Seeing the movie projector in action and all there tapes was great. We need more no singing band like this.

  • Talk Memory tour

    by G on 12/20/21Rating: 5 out of 5

Excellent concert, the energy was great and the projections helped transcending their awesome performances, definitely check them out when you have a chance!

Though badbadnotgood were amazing to see and gave an exceptional performance the opener was lack luster and wound up publicly misgendering me
