  • D'ANGELO: Experience of a lifetime

    by PurrPurr1987 on 2/11/16Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleRating: 5 out of 5

D'Angelo is a must-see if you like R&B, hip hop, neo-soul, etc. He is incredibly talented and musical - sounds even better in person than on his albums. He and his crew put on a sick show. I saw him at Starland Ballroom and Forest Hills, Queens. I highly recommend seeing him as intimately as you can because nothing in the world for me has compared to seeing him at Starland. I felt like he played for HOURS, and it was just a huge party. I religiously look for his tour dates now.

  • Great, but kept us waiting!

I bought the tickets because my fiancé loves D'Angelo, he can sing ALL his songs word for word. When I bought them, there were no details of the event, only that it started at 7:00 pm.... so we thought the show would start at 7:00 pm, but it didn't actually start until 9:15 pm. It gave us time to drink, eat, walk, and then stand around. Also since i paid good money for these tickets, I didn't know the only actual seats were in the way back of this venue, so we decided to stand and be closer to the stage. They sounded great, just the time period of waiting sucked. Very glad he sang Brown Sugar, but he could've sang one more older song, since we waited patiently for them.

A truly amazing evening of incredible music! His 10 member band was so deep with talent. Their stellar support of D'Angelo's music was full of musical moments I won't soon forget! Chris, Dave, Jesse Johnson and Pino Palladino are STARS in their own right! Having them backing up D'Angelo only proves what amazing music he makes! Is it soul? R&B? Funk? Rock? Jazz? ALL OF THE ABOVE! He seemed relaxed and having fun, enjoying himself and interacting with his band members and the audience. After he came out, after his first "Goodnight, Thank- you" and went into his soul revue/James Brown style of funky music I could not contain myself! I danced my butt off toward the back of the floor GA area, and have a blister on my foot to prove it! Those that were too stupid to stick around after his 2nd "Goodnight/Thank-you" missed a beautiful and expanded version of Untitled(How does it feel?) in which each member of his band was aloud to shine on their own before exiting. A true artist with a depth of musical talent that would be hard to match up with any one else making music today.

  • D'Angelo is the FUNKIN' TRUTH!!!

by SalukiSis on 8/25/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Where do I begin? All I can say is, don't walk--RUN to see D'Angelo in concert, wherever he is performing!!! Not only was this venue a perfect set up for him and his band The Vanguard, he was on time, looked healthy & fit, and gave the audience two encores! But please believe, the most notable thing about his performance was how much they brought the FUNK!!! Saw George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic in Vegas a few nights before D'Angelo, and if he'd been in the audience, he would've been proud. I mean they hit it HARD, with distinct nods to James Brown, Sly Stone, P-Funk, Prince...the latter was represented in the band by none other than Jessie Johnson, formerly of The Time, who retains that hard funk rock edginess. The band was tight. D'Angelo's vocals and keyboard chops were at their finest. He is a brilliant musician. Towards the very end of his set, as each band member walked off individually, he showed love to each of them--you could tell he was proud of his work with them, and was really happy with how well they nailed the performance. My sweetie and I couldn't stop dancing, couldn't stop rocking out, and didn't want it to end. I wasn't a big fan of his latest album (the one so many long years in the making), but who needs an album when you can smash out tour performances like that?!?! It's clear that he's back from all the personal challenges he's been through, and I'm so proud that I got to see him at his very best. Amaaaaazing...D'Angelo, you are the MUTHAFUNKIN' TRUTH!!!

  • Would Love to see D'Angelo Again!!

by LEinLV on 8/24/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Superb Concert. He's got it all. Incredible band, incredible voice! Sounds like Sly/Al Green/Prince/James Brown wrapped into one but has his own unique sound. Great energy, well rehearsed. Would walk over most of my favorite bands to see him again.

  • D'angelo is the hottest tour of the year!

by MellowBob on 8/24/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Musicianship was of the finest quality! Masters of the Groove! You can tell these guys all love playing with each other. We drove up from Phoenix to see this (which I've never done for another act). Wish this band would come to Arizona! Opening act was great (Sam Dew). D'angelo blew me away from the moment he took the stage. We had reserved seats (which were in the back), but moved down to the GA floor section. Too bad more people don't appreciate or know about this music. I hope they get better promotion in the future. Couldn't get tickets at all for the L.A. show, but this venue didn't appear to be sold out. My big complaint was the rumble of the subs drowning out the incredible bass of Pino Pallidino. I'm not a big fan of this style of mixing, which seems suited to hip-hop, but is definitely not what is called for here. Second complaint is for the audience who left before the encores. Their loss, but I can't believe people wouldn't stick around for this. I guess the average age was a bit older and the concert was advertised to start at 7:00 ... Opening act took the stage at 8:00 and D'angelo didn't start until around 9:30, so people had been there quite a while.

  • Great Concert

by m300zxt on 8/24/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

Great Concert. The sound system, however, was a bit off. Could not hear the vocals clearly. Too much treble.

  • Great show bring ear plugs!!

by Jarvis365 on 8/24/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

The show was amazing. He has a lot of talent on stage with him. The venue was small and not packed. The bass was way way too loud for the small crowd. We could actually see people covering their ears for the entire show!

  • Yep! He's up there with Prince

by Jnious on 8/24/15The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

D'Angelo rocked hard throughout the entire concert...Full energy. And the Vanguard is a super dope band. That 'gospel-rock-church-stank' is undeniable. He gives you his full upbringing in this concert. The extended version of "How Does It Feel" was well deserved as a slowed down, tuck you in and groove you to sleep finale. Dopeness all around.
