DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Diana Krall was a delight!

by JN on 5/28/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

This is our third time to a live performance by Diana Krall. We’ve been fans since the 1990s and will continue to be so, she is so talented and completely worth the price of a ticket. Having said that, this is the first time we have seen her in a US venue and wondered if that figured into the rudeness of the audience. The show was supposed to start at 8 pm, it started a bit late, and STILL people were strolling in for another half hour! People were going in and out (to the washroom I guess?) throughout, and Ms Krall had hardly played the last note of her final number when so many people leaped up and ran for the exits. It was bizarre! For those of us who stayed, we got 2 lovely encores - and a bit more breathing space. My final criticism is that there was no announcement at the beginning about people making phone videos of the performance. I thought that was against the rules, but clearly not universally understood. I think the venue management has a lot to answer for. It is only due to Ms. Krall's talent and ability to set a mood that we enjoyed the concert as much as we did.

  • Happy jazz fan

As an adult who played bass in a high school stage band and jazz choir and attended the Stan Kenton Jazz camp decades ago, this concert was a treasure! Loved all the improvisation and enjoyed Diane’s interactions with the audience. We’ve waited years to see Diane in person and are glad we came.

  • Shocking how great

by CoupleBigFans on 5/28/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana was amazing. Her piano playing was cathartic. She is also one of the greatest jazz singers of all time. The players were fantastic. They were tight and exuded jazz with expression that is rare to experience.

  • Diana Krall

by MJ on 5/26/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

The venue was beautiful, I love the Paramount in Seattle. Diana Krall's instrument performances were spectacular. We just could not hear Diana sing or speak. That was most disappointing. We were setting just a few rows up from the stage and on the side set of seats. We should have heard her loud and clear. She is a soft piano player and a soft singer. I wish she had more energy to play and sing and to engage with the audience. Her back was facing us.

  • A Concerned Fan

by IDREAM on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 1 out of 5

I love Diana Krall, I am a HUGE fan. I have seen her in concert about 2 dozen times throughout the last 20+ years. I've traveled near and far just to hear her velvety voice. She was the most incredible performer, her voice, her playing, she was impeccable. I also looked forward to her interaction with the audience. She was always comical, witty and so sharp. So, I feel like I'm qualified to review this most recent performance. I am incredibly concerned for her. Something is clearly wrong. She was not able to remember the lyrics, she sounded muffled and broken. She couldn't even play like her normal self. This was not her. It appears like there is some sort of cognitive impairment or maybe even something neurological that is worsening. I love this artist and it pained me to see her as a shell of her former self. Please, if anyone reads this that can make a difference please help her. We don't need to know any details as the public. Just please protect this icon and her legacy. There is nobody else like her, there may never be anyone like her again. If you do go to her concert, don't expect to hear her sing that much, she really tries but clearly she can't perform like before. She can't seem to get her voice out, and it seems that she can't play and sing at the same time anymore. She is still kind and thankful for her audience but I'm not sure she's aware of what is happening. It's so sad to watch. Her band mates try to keep things together with fantastic solo instrumentals as she watches. They work so hard and they smile and watch her, and try to help her along. But, honestly this was more like a ticket to watch an intimate jazz session trio as Diana Krall listens from her piano bench. I really hope she will be ok. I think though, that it is time for her to hang up the traveling boots and take care of herself. For me, sadly, this was my last Diana Krall concert. I wish you well Diana. 💔

  • Wonderful band & piano singing was off!

by Sherl on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Diana Krall band was phenomenal, her piano playing amazing but her singing was off. I thought maybe she had a sore throat or was sick with a cold. She didn’t sing very much and it lacked in precision. She forgot the words at one point. I saw her at the Triple Door, a few years ago and wow her voice was amazing, she didn’t have that great band, but didn’t need it.

  • A Fantastic Jazz Band

by KirklandMike on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana and her band play together as hand-in-glove. Anthony Wilson played guitar spectacularly, John Clayton is one of my favorite jazz bassists and Jeff Hamilton on drums carried Diana through the show. Diana had a good night but I've seen her vocals be more clear and she didn't use the beauty of her contralto gift as much as I had hoped. There were flourishes where she shined. I actually worried that she was not well. All-in-all, I was in the orchestra pit at the Paramount enjoying a wonderful concert.

  • A very good show in a great venue

by Tal on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 4 out of 5

Our seats were front row of the mezzanine. Each instrument, including Diana's voice, was so perfect and understated, even during the solos, but together they are so amazing. They did not have Diana or her Piano mic'd up very well for our section. The piano wasn't bright sounding and Diana was under mic'd.....except in the bathroom, where they had it nailed. The Paramount is a great venue

  • Not so great

by Kat on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 2 out of 5

Pretty disappointing , voice too quiet and beat too slow. Highly formulaic… she didn’t play any of her own pieces. This is the second time we’ve gone to see her and we’re now done! A shame!

  • The Best

by jeih on 5/25/25Paramount Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

A wonderful evening was spent at the beautiful Paramount Theater listening to Diana Krall and her band. She was superb, as always. Her band members are equally talented and amazing. The theater staff was cordial, gracious, and helpful, something difficult to be when pressed by a huge crowd.
