About

Elton John in Concert

Sir Elton Hercules John, English singer, songwriter and pianist, has been a fixture of the soft rock and pop music scene since the early 1960s and toured the globe extensively in his decades-long career. John's 2016-2018 Wonderful Crazy Night Tour has taken him throughout North America, the Middle East and Europe, as did his 2012-2013 Rocket Man 40th Anniversary Tour and 2011-2012 Greatest Hits Tour. John's musical style is marked by his flashy piano work and distinctive lead vocals. He is best known for his easy-listening rock and pop tunes, though, he is equally accomplished at creating works for films and the stage. His live shows combine his expert musicianship with flamboyant costumes and infectious energy, creating an atmosphere that enthralls audiences worldwide. Elton John's musical prowess has earned him numerous accolades. He managed to have a charting Top 40 hit every year from 1970 to 1996 and has crafted timeless melodies like "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," "Crocodile Rock," and "Bennie & The Jets." He's been nominated for nearly 30 Grammy Awards, and won eight, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and a Hall of Fame award.

Elton John Background

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, in Pinner, England, John was introduced to music at an early age. He started playing piano at age four, and won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at age 11. After leaving the Academy in 1961, he made the decision to pursue a career in music and joined his first band, Bluesology. John met his longtime writing partner, lyricist Bernie Taupin, in the mid-1960s, and since then has collaborated with him on more than 30 albums. Classic albums like his self-titled Elton John and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player are considered masterpieces to many a rock fan, and works like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road catapulted John to his legendary status. Though John is an icon in the field of music, his worldly influence stretches beyond songwriting and performing. In 1992, he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with the express purpose of supporting HIV prevention, education and care for those living with the disease.

So proud that Curebound is getting San Diego involved in this very important and needed mission. Loved every minute of it. A BIG THANKS to Elton John for leaving retirement to perform for us all!!!!

  • Elton is great, Petco sound is not

by Pyro on 5/13/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Elton John is fantastic and this was for a good cause. The sound people didn't do a very good job. Piano sounded distorted. Also you have a huge jumbotron, why didn't you use it?

  • No more concert if a match is scheduled the next day

by Chabou on 5/13/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I had a good evening, but honestly disappointed to have watched the whole concert with the baseball net because the day after the concert the Padres were playing. To have had this glaring light in my face and the sound was poorly adjusted and too loud. Come on guys it was Sir Elton John !!!

  • Loved, loved, loved Elton John.

by Jennifer T on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Elton John was amazing. Even better than I expected. Audience was filled with joy and Elton’s energy. Wonderful cause - Curebound. A living legend helping a cause.

  • Perfect vocals - even at Elton's age

by Geoff on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 4th time I've seen Elton over the decades. All the other times were when he was on tour, including his last Yellow Brick Road tour. He was GREAT in this concert! What blew me away the most were his vocals - his voice was the best I've ever heard him. Powerful, perfectly on-note. His piano playing was again virtuoso. Band was terrific - I really enjoyed how they "rocked up"and jazzed up some numbers. Overall musicianship was terrific. I'm so glad I attended the concert - plus it was for a very worthy cause , which re-emphasized what a great human being that Elton is.

  • It was a wonderful evening!!!

  • Great Concert - Horrible Views

by Nicole M on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

We purchased tickets on opening day at full price so we could pick the best seats with the best view of the stage. Nowhere, where did it say there may be an obstructed view. A week before the concert I went to see what seats were left and was very surprised to see the pricing had dropped over 50% since they went on sale. Had I known this was going to be an option I would’ve waited to purchase our tickets so we could’ve got closer to the stage for the same money. When we got to our seats on the night of the concert the canopy/roof from the sound engineers area completely blocked the entire stage. If it were not for the big screens on the side, we wouldn’t have been able to see anything. Elton John still sounded fabulous and nonetheless I’m glad I got to see him. Now I know what to not do next year.

  • Great benefit concert!

  • Amazing

Great concert, he sang longer than expected. He still can sing and play the piano beautifully!

  • Beautiful Evening Beautiful Cause

by Timbo on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Elton still belting it out in amazingly great voice. And, it was GREAT to see Davey & Nigel still rocking it on stage from the original band. Highlights for me were -Funeral for a Friend/Love lies bleeding -Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters We had a great time. Very touching testimonies/memorials from survivors, friends and family members on the video screens. Acoustics in Petco were pretty echoey & washed out. But, for a one time show they did what they could with the equipment & venue. Never saw Elton before. It was a true joy. Thank You CUREBOUND, Thank you Elton

  • Amazing Concert

by Bob on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Sir Elton John was simply amazing. Set list was great and his voice was strong!

  • Elton was flawless

by Joanne O on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Elton performed flawlessly. His piano playing and voice are as good as he ever was. It is evident that he has been through some issues physically, but that does not affect his performance one bit.

  • Elton Cure for Cancer Concert

by When we stand together.... on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

This was a phenomenal benefit concert for cure for cancer fundraiser that raised 11.5 million with Elton John speaking about his own experiences & performing live for two hours & ending show with amazing Firework display afterwards !!

  • Great!

by SA on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Despite obvious physical difficulties walking on and off stage, Elton John put on a GREAT show. His piano playing was awesome, the rest of the band polished and his singing sounded great. Loved our seats and ease with getting in and out of the venue.

  • Elton John Petco Park

by LT on 5/12/25Petco Park - San DiegoRating: 1 out of 5

While Elton was was iconic, the venue wasn’t. We had seats behind home plate (not cheap) and watched the concert through a net. The stage was on the other side of the field and right in our line of sight was a tent over the production crew. We could see on the small monitors on the side of the stage but still pretty far away. If they had projected on the large monitor we could have had a better view. This was an obstructed view for at least 3-4 lower level sections and that should have been communicated as I wouldn’t have bought those tickets at the price they were.

  • Sir Elton AWESOME!!
