Owen was always the class clown growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After high school, he got serious and enlisted in the Navy.
Owen became a military police officer at the Naval Installations on Coronado Island in San Diego. During this time, Owen worked up the nerve to go at a nightclub. After only a year of doing stand-up, he was named "Funniest Serviceman in America."
Then in July of 1997 he auditioned for BET's COMICVIEW. Two appearances on the multi-cultural comedy showcase won him his own one-hour "Grandstand" show. At the end of the season he was selected from the year’s four "Grandstanders" to be the host. Not only is Owen the only white man to have ever hosted COMICVIEW, but he is the only white on-air personality the network has ever had.

As always, Gary Owens doesn't disappoint. I always knew he was very funny on TV but in person he was even better. I recommend everyone go see him. Can't wait to see him again.
He was amazing the theater was beautiful and the seats were amazing a little tight but amazing view and perfectly priced!! A lovely night out with my bestfriend!! Had a ball and the concession stand was reasonable priced!

Gary is a must see comic. His shoes are always entertaining and very fun. He had three openers for him and each one was funnier than the last. Leading up to Gary. He did around and hour to hour n a half and was non-stop funny. Do yourself a favor and check on of his shows
The show was great, was able to hear well, and see, the only complaint I have is that the seats are very uncomfortable. This may had not been an issue if I wasn't 6'4 but I am, my legs started cramping up and knees hurt most of the show making it very hard to enjoy the show.
First time seeing him it was great and my first time visiting the Taft theatre great experience all around
I have been a fan of Gary Owen and he was great as always. This was my 3rd time seeing him. It was my first time seeing Lavell Crawford and won't be my last. Lavell had us crying. It was non stop laughing. He had us hurting from laughing so hard. Outstanding show!

Our seats were OK, however, the acoustics were horrible where we were sitting. They need a speaker at the top level on the sides to improve sound quality. We had to move and find an area where we could stand up and hear better and we were at the top in the center and the sound quality improved 100%. The comedy show was hilarious and Lavelle Crawford was the best!
This was my first time in Indiana and also first time seeing Gary Owens in person. Hands down the funniest show I’ve watched in person!!!!

I had the pleasure of seeing Gary Owen's comedy show at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond Indiana. This was my first time seeing him in person. I have always thought he was funny and he was truly that! I really enjoyed myself. The other comedians were funny as well. The host Damon Williams was hilarious too! It was a great show I could actually see it again... it's that good!
ME AND THE WIFE WENT TO SEE GARY OWENS TO CHECK OFF A BUCKET LIST BUT WE HAD A GREAT TIME. HE WAS VERY FUNNY AND WE REALLY ENJOYED OURSELVES
Went to Sound Board to see Gary and he delivered a great show from beginning to end. Nonstop laughs. Wore a lions T-shirt great representation, for the city. Will see his show again.
