Owen was always the class clown growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio. After high school, he got serious and enlisted in the Navy.

Owen became a military police officer at the Naval Installations on Coronado Island in San Diego. During this time, Owen worked up the nerve to go at a nightclub. After only a year of doing stand-up, he was named "Funniest Serviceman in America."

Then in July of 1997 he auditioned for BET's COMICVIEW. Two appearances on the multi-cultural comedy showcase won him his own one-hour "Grandstand" show. At the end of the season he was selected from the year’s four "Grandstanders" to be the host. Not only is Owen the only white man to have ever hosted COMICVIEW, but he is the only white on-air personality the network has ever had.

    Gary Owen was HILARIOUS!!!! He was one of my favorite growing up seeing him on BET’s Comic View and he did not disappoint. Gut busting comedy from beginning to end!!!!

    Had a very nice experience, he's a very funny guy, really enjoyed the time. Of jokes was very refreshing. Didn't think I would laugh as hard as I did. Very glad that I went. Can't wait to see him again.

    We went to see him in Biloxi on February 15th and the show was incredible. My commented on the ride home how much her jaws were hurting from laughing. Opening act was funny as well. Definitely a must see

    I arrived about 20 minutes till and realized that there was no parking space available other than the top last garage floor. And I had to find where to go for the short and download Wi-Fi to get my tickets, I was so happy to find out that he had a guest other than himself and it helped me to be able to see him fully 😊 I tried to order drinks and when I did get my cocktail it was very watery down and taste like juice so the bartender sucks! Gave us all watery drinks. My overall experience about the show was fantastic though. Gary Owen was great! 😍

    I saw Gary when he came to the coast with Martin Lawrence back in August 2024. And I said then if he hada show alone I go to see him. Wouldn't you know I got an email he was coming back. I wasted no time getting my tickets. He was so hilarious I enjoyed every minute. I will definitely pay to see him again.
