  • The voice and the venue

by 3/4 Time on 5/27/22Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthRating: 5 out of 5

The Madeleine Peyroux show at Jimmys Jazz club showcased the best of what live music is about. She was amazing, her band exceptional and the venue made it all that much better. Her voice got richer as the evening unfolded. Song after timeless song made fresh by her band and her interpretations. She and her group took us on a musical voyage from Portsmouth to Paris with stops in Georgia and Jersey. It was our first visit to Jimmys Jazz. Wowza! Great place! The sound, the vibe, the service and the menus were all outstanding. Cant wait to go back!

  • The entire evening was simply divine!

by Old Folkies on 5/11/22Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

What an intimate and delightful experience being able to see a performer of such talent from three rows away! Ms. Peyroux was in fine form and her fellow musicians didn't miss a beat. My only wish was that they never stopped! Thanks for a great evening!

  • Great performance intimate venue

  • Peyroux experience

Wonderful concert. Her voice and music take me to a place I think would be reminiscent of a Parisian dinner venue in the 1940’s.

  • An 11 out of a possible 10!!!

We were a bit of an odd couple, me in my late 70's, daughter in her 40's. I'm the Peyroux fan, found her on a CBS Saturday Morning show quite a few years back. As a Piaf and Holiday fan, Madeleine had "that" sound that I love, so I bought a CD and sing along with her while out and about in the car! I was delighted to see her name in the Parker Playhouse lineup and bought two tickets immediately, and told my daughter she was my date. The opening act, an hour, Sophie Hawkins, was a bonus! I never heard of her, but my daughter did, and what a bundle of energy she was, funny, keyboard, guitar, singing, wow! Hawkins alone was worth the price of ticket. Then Madeleine arrived and calmed everyone down with that unique style, range, voice! Her fan club was there and enthusiastically rewarded her after every song. Throughout the two hour show, she got several standing ovations! The musicians were superb and at the end some local guitarist (I missed his name) joined them, and he was a WOW, too. It was a magical night, even though Madeleine didn't sing any of my favorites. I left the theatre relaxed (her music does that), along with her newest fan, my daughter. Kudos to Parker Playhouse, my first visit since they renovated! They kept the ambience we always loved, and did a super job on the lobby entry area. Still has that old charm from the Hepburn/Brynner/Garland days!!

  • Sublime

by Rudy on 11/5/21Rating: 5 out of 5

Nobody, nowhere beats this woman in concert. This was my tenth time seeing her live and she never fails to take me to another place with her thoughtful phrasing and dedication to the music. It’s what she lives for, and if you pay attention, her fairy dust lands on you. Her musicians are always the very best, too. I cannot wait to see her again next year.

  • No longer the same

by Not a fan anymore on 10/20/21The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 1 out of 5

Madeleine Peyroux doesn’t sing anymore. I had been a fan since 2004, seen her multiple times, but I’m very disappointed in her performance this weekend. She doesn’t sound like the same person anymore. Waste of time and money.

  • Meh

by JB on 10/19/21The Saban - Beverly HillsRating: 3 out of 5

Madeleine is great. We really loved seeing her. But we were disappointed when we discovered she wasn’t actually the headliner of the show. If we’d known she’d be on stage for barely an hour we’d probably have sought out another date and location on her tour.

  • Very Enjoyable

by MIPeach on 10/3/21Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

It was a terrific show put on by Paula Cole & Madeleine Peyroux at the beautiful Pantages Theater in Minneapolis. The COVID-19 precautions were great-thank you! I used the digital ticket process for the first time & it went very smoothly.

  • Beautiful, but so very short

by Laura K on 9/28/21Ludlow Garage Cincinnati - CincinnatiRating: 3 out of 5

Music was phenomenal. She's a wonderful singer, but the entire concert was 1 hour. We drive over an hour to get there thinking it was an evening of entertainment. It was not.

  • great volume level

by mike on 9/21/21The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Both performers weren't loud at all. That is what I look for in going to a concert, how loud the concert is. The concert can be a little loud, (a little), but the concert has to be 'balanced' sound wise, (where either the singer doesn't overpower the instruments, or the instruments don't overpower the singer). The sound in loud concerts can get really distorted. I saw Buddy Guy at the Cabot Theater, and the concert was way too loud, and the sound was really distorted. It made me not want to be there. Plus, a really loud concert, especially in a small space, is really overbearing. The sound level was great at this concert, and either the singer, or the instruments didn't try to 'overpower' each other. It was a great experience.

  • Poor show, acoustics and singing

by Disappointed in Alexandria on 9/14/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 1 out of 5

Medeleine sings much worse than she did in the early 2000s. Gravely voice and no enthusiasm. She also looks nothing like she did in the early 2000s, now a frumpy middle-aged woman without elegance or class. Spare yourself the pain and listen to her songs and recording from 20 years ago.

  • Best Ever

by CEF on 9/14/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Madeleine and her band were fabulous. Her voice, vocal control and nuances are superb. This concert was special as my first time at the Birchmere since Covid and the first time since Covid to hear Madeleine. It was as if the performers and audience were set free safely--with masks and everyone vaccinated. I have enjoyed hearing Madeleine's concerts a number of times over the years, and this concert was far and away the best. That's saying a lot since all her concerts are wonderful. I especially enjoy the intimacy and comfort of the Birchmere.

  • Good

by Nickie on 9/14/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

I love her singing when I listen to jazz radio, her voice is very soothing. I loved everything about the show, however, I wished she would interact more with the audience. Two days prior to this concert, we saw, Julia Fordham, and she was amazing!

  • Great show, safe and healthy!

by Rodrigo Avila on 9/14/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Place and food amazing. Staff and health protocols all working. Madeleine wonderful like always.

  • Very enjoyable show.

    by John C on 9/14/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

If you like sophisticated, understated jazz vocals you'll like the show. The band was outstanding as well. They do a nice mix of ballads and up tempo swing and blues.

  • Wonderful, second visit to that venue, lots of fun.

by Ken on 10/30/19Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Reminded me of an old club. Intend to get tickets for BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY in January looking forward to that happening

  • Overall experience was positive but with certain warts.

by Ten Eight on 10/30/19Sony Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a fan of Madeleine Peyroux for almost 20 years so I was excited for this concert. Sony Hall has significant disadvantages as a venue, though. Many reminders told us that our general admission tickets would be first come, first served for seating. Fine. We got there early to get a good seat but were herded into the hall among the first to arrive and were taken to our seats by an usher who was trained to show us to specific seats, hence no choice at all, really. The tables for us, as well as for the VIP ticket holders, were long and assembled in rows that allowed for impossibly tight seating. We aren't even overweight but for those who are, this would be impossible. The chairs themselves were completely absurd...rickety and massively uncomfortable. I don't have a bad back but I did have a horrible backache after the concert. Our waiter was good, friendly, competent, so no problem there. The prices were high but not surprising. As for the concert itself, it started 30 minutes late, especially annoying given the ridiculous chairs we were sitting on. The woman sitting next to me is a performing musician, too, and she remarked on how male musicians never seem to think of dressing for a performance while women are expected to. Madeleine Peyroux wore an attractive outfit that complimented her heavier body shape and it was easy for her to attach her various instruments to a strap around her neck, all very effective. The keyboard player looked like he was wearing a shirt he had slept in and he was prominently featured in the front. He was very good, but that aspect was wanting. Her repertoire was fine for me with many familiar favorites along with newer songs. Her voice was superb and I enjoyed her commentary between songs. I did not enjoy how many times she featured the back-up musicians though. We appreciated them with applause too often. It was MP we were there to see and hear, not them. They were very good, no doubt about it, but they didn't merit that much attention. The end of the concert was a bit bizarre. MP seemed uncertain about doing an encore, then returned to do one, and it was somehow ineffective as a song choice, again focusing too much attention on her backup. A bit disappointing as a concert conclusion.

  • Fabulous

Wonderful performance. Madeleine Peyroux not only has a great voice, but she is a fun, and genuine performer. I will see her whenever I can.

March 8 Sony Hall NYC Sony Hall is a great venue for this singer. I have been a huge fan ever since I was introduced to her while living in New York ! Finally got to sit close ! she was awesome as always - love her voice and especially the lyrics to the songs she sings. the food was great as was the staff. We were a bit squeezed together but Ms. Peyroux likes the smaller venues so that is just part of the deal to hear her fabulous voice !
