OPETH IN CONCERT:
Swedish progressive metal rockers Opeth are all about keeping listeners on their toes. The band's technically virtuosic jams are a study in contrast, juxtaposing brutal guitar riffing with soft acoustic passages and blood-curdling death growls with melodic choruses. Their live shows play up these opposing elements perfectly, hitting fans with a maelstrom of moods and textures that run the gamut from heart-pounding to serene. At the center of it all is frontman Mikael Akerfeldt, a magnetic performer whose dynamic voice and wild-eyed intensity is the driving force behind ambitious compositions like "Sorceress" and "Will O The Wisp." He's joined on stage by a motley crew of shredders who keep the energy cranked to the max on guitar, bass, drums, and Mellotron – a unique keyboard instrument that lends an eerie, otherworldly vibe to the band's songs. Metal fans looking to have their minds blown continue to turn out in droves to see Opeth play, and they're never disappointed by the band's hard-hitting, adventurous sounds.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Opeth formed in Stockholm in 1990 and spent their early years playing a straight-ahead brand of death metal featuring blast beats and aggressive vocals. By mid-decade the band had begun incorporating elements of jazz, blues, and even classical, and their 1995 debut album Orchid was roundly hailed by critics for its unique blend of styles. The band released three more albums in the '90s but didn't start touring until the release of 2001's Blackwater Park. That album sold nearly 100,000 copies in the US alone, a major feat that drew the band out on their first world tour. By the end of the '00s Opeth was a fixture on the Swedish charts, and American audiences weren't far behind – both 2011's Heritage and 2014's Pale Communion cracked the Top 20 on the US Billboard 200. The band released their 12th studio album Sorceress to another round of critical acclaim in 2016, and followed up with more face-melting sets on their Sorceress World Tour.

Excellent balance of Heavy and Clean. Band was ON POINT the entire show!
I have been to a number of concerts.. Opeth and Ghost are the top 2.. Opeth was unbelievable where you listen live and think "there is no way this is being played live".. Will definitely go see them again whenever
They're as good live as on their recordings and you also get Michael's funny comments between songs. Great band, great collection of songs, great musicianship, great sound! If you have doubts - don't - just go.
Opeth did not disappoint! They sounded amazing! Mikael's voice was melodic & demonic all in one! He has a great sense of humor as well! The rest of the band was on point & the visuals were excellent! Well worth the 5hrs of driving to & from!
Opeth performed perfectly, crisp, clear, flawless performance
This was my first metal concert ever. I am changed for life. A friend of mine introduced me to their music. I went down the rabbit hole and never looked back. Opeth sounded AMAZING!! The intricacies and tones of their music is profound. I am forever changed in a good way! Want to see them again and again!
It was litteraly peak. I think I can die now having seen this amazing band in person. Very interactive with the crowd, very good playing, it was all pretty much perfect. Thank you for coming to Phoenix opeth.
Great venue. great sound. Reasonably affordable. 10/10.
Opeth is an amazing band. I've seen them about a dozen times and this show was the best they've ever been. Great stage setup, incredible performances. Frontman Mikeal Akerfeldt has become quite the showman since I last saw them. $50 for parking sucked. No cash payments accepted for parking or drinks, which is super lame, and folding chairs on the Floor Section is super lame for a Heavy Metal concert. Unfortunately it's things like that that make me think my time of attending Live Nation/Ticketmaster events is over.
It was my first time at the van Buren and the venue was really nice, smaller and intimate. It was perfect to see my favorite band at! Everything about the show was amazing, the sound was soooo good, the visuals and lighting perfect... I would LOVE to see them here again. There is just nothing like seeing Opeth live 🤘
