About

With a delicate country twang that plays perfectly with the indie rock sound, Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses will murmur his emotionally complex songs to intimate rooms of thousands when the band begins its "Acoustic At The Ryman" Tour in early 2014. The group, originally called Horses, is known best for its melancholy lullaby-like “No One’s Gonna Love You” and the more anthemic “Is There a Ghost,” though they have several songs pulled from their four albums—"Everything All the Time," "Cease to Begin," "Infinite Arms" and "Mirage Rock"—that have enjoyed critical and popular acclaim. With the latest tour comes an accompanying release, "Acoustic At The Ryman," which pares down the sound even further.

Co-founded by former Seattleites Bridwell and then bandmate Mat Brooke in 2004, the Band of Horses collective has seen several lineup changes, with the current group including Bridwell, Creighton Barrett, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds. In an unusually democratic move, they collaborate together on song lyrics, instrumentation and show experience to create a lush, confessional sound for each concert and a unique feel for every album. Tickets are on sale now for the February shows. As fans scoop up seats on the West Coast, they are also no doubt replaying the beloved tunes from their significantly more upbeat 2012 album release, "Mirage Rock," which features the songs “Slow Cruel Hands of Time” and “Knock Knock” and isn’t a particularly easy album to play on the road. Bridwell jocularly laments his lack of musician prowess, but it’s clear from his latest works that practice is paying off, and his fans can look forward to many more years of his sweet, sentimental and lyrically complex melodies.

Amazing performance but ridiculous wait time… been going to concerts for 20 years. Longest I have ever waited. The opener came on within a half hour. We waited an additional two hours. Please change your start time if it’s going to be that long of a wait.

  • Great time

by Taz on 3/17/25The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert! There was a little distortion because the music was SO loud so it was kinda hard to hear the words sometimes but we had a great time.

  • Killer show

by Crfparadox on 3/14/25Tannahill's Tavern and Music Hall - Fort WorthRating: 4 out of 5

We really like Band of Horses, especially live, and their performance did not disappoint. Ben Birdwell has a large body of work to draw on and the show was great (although I was sorry Casual Party did not make the set list!). The reason for only 4 stars is the misinformation about when doors opened. We come from about 1 and half hours away and multiple sources, including Tannahill’s own website, said doors open at 7. We wanted to be near the first in line so we got there about 6:45. When we got there, an employee said doors didn’t open until 8. We certainly would have timed our arrival, and avoided some serious traffic, if we knew we had an extra hour. Not a big deal, but something they could improve on. This was our 4th show at this venue and it’s been a recurring issue. Otherwise, a great place to see a performance at a reasonable price.

  • NYE with BoH

by elevensbest on 1/3/25Fillmore Auditorium (Denver) - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Flew from Portland to Denver solo to ring in the new year with BoH. 2024 was a rough year for me and the first three LPs have been on near-constant rotation. Killing time before the show, I had these lines from Marry Song inked on the inside of my left forearm: Lucky ones are we all ‘til it is over/Everyone, near and far/When you smile, the sun it peeks through the clouds/Never die, for always be around and around and around. Walking by the venue afterwards, I got to listen to a bit of the guys soundchecking. Show was great. Two sets. Wish Ben would get some advice on hitting the high notes, but I also appreciate his devil-may-care stance on performance. Enthusiastic audience. Balloon drop at midnight. Here’s to 2025!

  • What was up with the timing

by Horsehead on 1/3/25Fillmore Auditorium (Denver) - DenverRating: 3 out of 5

It was a cool show but weirdly timed. Didn’t come on till 11, then played 1/2 hour of absolute bangers. Then took a break till midnight. Then another set that we did not make it through. Lots of people trickling out at 12:30-1:00, mid set 2. I’ve seen BoH maybe 5-6 times at all kinds of venues. Always love their energy and am a loyal follower. This was probably my least favorite of the shows I’ve seen. Not that they’re seeking my advice, but better to finish around midnight and maybe play some encores after 12. I think it caught a lot of folks off guard.

  • Epic performances, fantastic venue!

Both City & Colour and Band Of Horses put on a great show and sounded amazing. I love the lay-out of the venue with all the food trucks, water fill stations, bar. Love these bands and this spot!

  • Great show to check out

I didn’t realize how much I loved this band until I watched them live! They were awesome! The band played and sang even more amazingly in person. I really left wanting more and I had a great time at this show. 👍🏼❣️✨

  • BoH & C&C

Both Band of Horses and City & Colour were amazing live — killer show!! Venue & staff were great!!

  • Great Performance - Terrible Crowd

by CG on 9/9/24The Lyric - BaltimoreRating: 3 out of 5

I purchased tickets to this show having seen BoH open for the Black Keys a few years ago and was looking forward to seeming them Headline and play a longer set. This ended up being 3 bands which left limited time for BoH to play and even required Ben to say ("No Encore or anything like that..."). Not that I blame him, the venue was far from full, the patrons were not into the show and most sat through the entire set. Further, many of the people around us left after City and Colour, leaving a sparse crowd for the BoH set. Overall, BoH delivered a great performance but a shortend one to a very low energy crowd which diminished the overall experience for me. Unfortunate considering the amazing seats I had and a poor reflection of the fan base located in the Baltimore area.

  • Laid back low stim vibes!

by Mancha on 9/5/24Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - WilmingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed the venue for its closeness with nature and it was so awesome getting to sit near the water and trees. Loved the laid back energy & staff was very friendly/helpful. Not much shelter for when rain happens but they were prepared with ponchos for sale. Other than prices being high (which is everywhere) it was an excellent experience.
