CHAKA KHAN IN CONCERT:

The Queen of Funk has no equal: Chaka Khan is, indeed, a living legend. Her live performances are energetic histories of her four-decade long career in music -- from her funk days through her jazz and R&B heydays. Her profound voice carries her fans "Through the Fire," and "Ain't Nobody" loves them better than Chaka. Although Chaka's appearances are less frequent than in her heyday, she delivered big at her 2013 shows, wowing fans and building excitement for her select dates in 2014. Make no mistake: she's got it. She's still got it.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chicago-born Yvette Marie Stevens came up in rough South Side housing projects before she rose to fame under the name Chaka Khan. Her grandmother introduced her to jazz music at an early age and instilled a life-long love of the genre. As she grew up, she bounced around all-girl singing groups and small bands before joining the Black Panthers and changing her name. While performing in a local band in 1972, she was poached by a new group called Rufus, and with her at the lead, the group signed a major contract with ABC Records just a year later. After several years with Rufus, she proved to be just as talented on her own with the 1978 solo debut Chaka, featuring the ubiquitous hit “I’m Every Woman”. All said and done, she has won ten Grammys and sold over 200 million records worldwide.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"She is a gift of 'honey for the ears!' No one will ever match her talent! We are so fortunate that she shares her gift with the world, and that she has been blessed with an unchanging voice."

"As expected, Chaka torn it up and I couldn't get enough even though she sang for over an hour and a half. I loved every minute of it."

"Very relaxing show! She is a loving artist! Performance great!"

  • Still has the voice

Still has a strong voice, but the stage performance was mediocre, I would really enjoy her in a jazz setting.

  • Better Sisters

by Browneyes on 5/28/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

My guess and I missed Gladys Knight because I was having trouble getting it on my phone. I took a snapshot of it just in case something happened, and it did, but your machine wouldn't take it. Your agent wanted me to go on a very long line to get a printout of my tickets with the credit card that I used to purchase it with, I left my cards in the car so I wouldn't have to carry a lot of things inside. While I was having all those problems Gladys Knight came on first and my guess came from PA to see her, but we couldn't get in to see her. They were heart broken. They wanted me to get my money back because they didn't get to see Gladys Knight and they are seniors they LOVE Gladys that much.

Chaka did well. She followed Patti. And Chaka was a welcome relief. She looks great since the weight loss.

  • Once in a Lifetime

by Jeleena on 5/28/25Bridgestone Arena - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! So blessed to be able to witness these queens with my mother for Mother’s Day! Chaka killed it. Patti was amazing. The line up was good and Stephanie Mills was fun. Just joyful even from afar. The only critique I have is that, they should’ve allowed Gladys to sit down. I appreciated the ease of the venue. I wish they had the 4 queens poster up so fans could take pictures by it.

My daughter and I had the best time. Those Ladies were amazing, Chaka left us smiling and singing all the way home. Looking forward to the next one.

  • Communication of Barclay’s Center was poor

by Cory on 5/27/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Announce Shaka when it was Stephanie Mills sang and the mistake was never corrected. No announcement of intermissions was done. I believe it was 3 times lights just shut off. Barclays center has to do more and improved the communication with the audience. The 4 Queens were excellent. Wish Gladys knight would had perform a little longer.I enjoy the show. Proud of the 4 Legends.

  • Nice Show

by LW on 5/27/25Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the concert. Chaka's voice is still appealing, however a little less screaming would have made it even more appealing. Also, the Oversight of the Sound quality needs to be greatly improved. It would have MADE THE SHOW BETTER
