Soft Cell on Tour

English synthpop icons Soft Cell came to prominence in the mid-'80s with their smash hit "Tainted Love." Comprised of vocalist Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball, Soft Cell still have what it takes to put on a captivating show almost four decades into their career. Soft Cell are bringing their dreamy vocals and ethereal synthesized beats stateside on a North American Tour in 2022. Don't miss out on tickets to see the pair perform new tracks from 2022's Happiness Not Included, their sixth studio album and first release in 20 years. As a special treat for fans, Soft Cell will be performing their debut album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, which featured the hit "Tainted Love," as a belated celebration of its 40th anniversary.

Soft Cell Live in Concert

After meeting at Leeds Polytechnic in England, English synthpop duo Soft Cell was formed by Marc Almond and David Ball during the late '70s. The pair's first project, the EP Mutant Moments, was released in 1980. The track "Memorabilia" -- from Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret -- was a hit in local clubs, and Some Bizarre record label signed Soft Cell as a promising new pop group. Mutant Moments wasn't the hit they expected, but Some Bizarre gave the band another chance to record a hit single. This second chance led the band to release a cover of Gloria Jones' 1965 northern soul track "Tainted Love." It became a No. 1 hit in 17 countries in 1981 and is still widely recognized today. By 1982, "Tainted Love" was No. 8 in the United States and set a Guinness World Record for staying on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 43 weeks straight. Between 1981 and 1984, Soft Cell released four UK Top 20 albums and 12 Top 40 hits before splitting to pursue solo projects. The pair have never been able to stay apart for good, and eventually reunited for a tour in 2000 and again in 2018. After touring across Europe in 2000, the band released 2002's Cruelty Without Beauty, with the single "The Night" reaching No. 39 in the UK. After another close to 20 years of hiatus, Soft Cell returned to play "one last" reunion show for 20,000 fans at The O2 in 2018.  After the wild success of the O2 show, BMG offered Almond and Ball a new record deal. The pair accepted and ended up sticking together to release Happiness Not Included in 2022.

  • Marc Almond is GOD!

by Sue Banu on 9/28/22The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve waited 40 years to see Soft Cell live. They did not disappoint!!! Such a fun show! Would of loved if Dave Ball was able to make it but he needed to take care of himself. Thank you for stopping in San Diego!!!

  • Misery, Complaints, Self-pity, Injustice

by Axel on 9/8/22House of Blues Chicago - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Soft Cell, This band came out with one of the greatest electronic dance songs of the 80s Tainted Love, getting to see them perform live was a privilege. Most people don't know but Chicago currently has a huge underground synth-wave and goth scene. I have an undying respect for these gentleman for having zero fear and creating this music during a time where it took courage just to walk the street at night. Marvelous, fantastic, sexy, extraordinary this is the kind of music that keeps the club open till 4am

  • too cold

by Marrtissey on 9/5/22Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

To me the show was a bit cold. Maybe because I was late... but at the end, with all our records and all, he left without a word, or sharing anything, He did not stop for a second. That was disappointing. Other than that, the organization, the location, the sound system, everything was perfect.

  • Soft Cell deliver the goods!

by Baz on 9/5/22Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Soft Cell (although it was just Marc Almond, as David Ball had dropped out due to illness) really got the crowd going, and everyone had a great time. An added extra thrill was having legendary JG Thirlwell (Foetus, Wiseblood) sing a cover version of Suicide's Ghost Rider. THIS was the highlight for me. All the hits were played, and everyone left singing and smiling

  • Non-Stop Entertainment

by Bex on 9/3/22The Magnolia - El CajonRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the El Cajon show in San Diego. Never heard such a loud roar from the crowd when Marc came on the stage. The show started with an oldie but goldie then the rest of the 1st half showcased the new album. I was concerned at first, because I hadn’t heard any of the songs before the show, but must admit they were all excellent and I now want to buy it! The second half was the whole of Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret (in the order of the album) and the whole arena was up dancing and singing. What a fantastic show, one of the best I have seen. Well done Marc & Co, you didn’t disappoint. Still on a high days later 👏❤️😁

  • A mixed affair

by Rob on 9/2/22Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

When Soft Cell focused on their classic material, the show was fantastic. Marc’s banter between songs was genuinely funny and touching, his dancing rather goofy. Unlike so many other electronic acts, they even improvised, which only added to the material. Alas the new songs are forgettable. The lyrics, focusing on “future” and “technology” are trite and utterly devoid of human emotion. Quite the contrast to the witty and sexy and melancholy lyrics from the past. The break in the middle of the show didn’t help. A shorter set with just the classics and no break would have been vastly better. Nonetheless I’m glad I got to see them after all

  • Soft Cell Sendoff

by UWSider on 9/2/22Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Despite not knowing all of the band's new stuff, Marc Almond did not disappoint. Exotic Cabaret is a winner and the crowd was there to receive it. Great backup singers, and the keyboardist who stepped in for David Ball held it down.
