About

Austin, Texas...Eric Johnson has been traveling on a prolific odyssey over the course of more than four decades. Along the way, his creations have encompassed repertoire that cross pollinate genres which include rock, blues, jazz, fusion, soul, folk, new-age, classical and even country. Inevitably, E.J. says it best in sharing, "It really boils down to the music and the song at the end of the day", he explains, "If it doesn't have that it gets boring for me. The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project".

During the pandemic, the Grammy-winning guitarist, vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist released weekly donation-based "Mini Guitar Lessons" benefiting Food Banks across the country and worked in the studio on previously un-released tracks and new recordings. These tracks resulted in the release of 2 new albums entitled "The Book Of Making" and "Yesterday Meets Today" in July of 2022 on Blue Élan Records. The purchase of both albums includes the keys to a third album, "Takeouts" which includes unreleased and alternate recordings of songs available as an exclusive download.

Throughout his career, Johnson has approached music as a healing force, a way to enhance the listener's consciousness, and conjure joy and inspiration. More than a year into the Pandemic , and because of the Pandemic, he reflects that this approach has become reinforced and more enhanced.

The 2023 Treasure Tour will feature some of his previously unreleased gems, some older classics and some new soon-to-be favorites.

  • Best Eric Johnson show ever!

    by JaxRamblin'Man on 8/28/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

First, the Bijou is a terrific, comfortable, and acoustically superb venue. We have seen several E.J. shows going back decades. For whatever reason, E.J. was ON this night. He was outstanding. Perhaps the group could have used a keyboard player to be perfect.

  • Amazing musicians, but an underwhelming performance.

by Distortion on 8/19/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

I was quite excited to see Eric Johnson perform in Knoxville. However, I was underwhelmed by the overall performance. Although everyone in the band was an amazing player, the repetitive runs and tone was a bit underwhelming. The lighting in the venue was poor, and overall I felt as though I was attending a warm-up jam session. Just because you can play a million notes a minute doesn’t mean you should. There runs were repetitive and quite frankly I left halfway through the concert because it was so repetitive. I believe the first portion of the concert was lesser known tunes, and the second was supposed to be his more known recordings. Hopefully the second set was better, but I’ll never know.

  • Very poor

The sound system quality was terrible through the entire concert. Not well thought out!!

  • Stunning guitar fluency

by Music Buff on 8/16/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Eric Johnson, through his catalog of skilled and stunning fluency with the guitar fretboard, song composition, foot pedals, and amplifier choices, had my jaw dropping song after song. I've been listening to his music since the early nineties and it is joyous to see that the guitar licks continue to flow out with what looks like ease, but which is actually an incredible set of skills.

  • EJ never disappoints.

I watched a 70 year old man shred for 2 1/2 hours. Inspiring doesn't begin to describe it.

  • One of the best

Eric Johnson is amazing. Seeing him up close was well worth the money.

  • Phenomenal artist

by Toni on 8/16/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Eric Johnson years ago at a bar in Austin soon after A Via Musicom hit it big. He was extraordinary then, and continues to be now. I feel humbled to have experienced his talent again.

  • Bad sound

by greetrufus on 8/16/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Eric Johnson was awesome but the mix was terrible. Couldn't hear him play and his vocals sounded like they came through a tin can. Left 45 min into the show the sound was so bad. And it was very hot in the venue.

  • Very Good Concert

by BC on 4/10/24Aztec Theatre - San AntonioRating: 5 out of 5

Eric Johnson gave us a great show that exceeded expectations from the opening band, to the venue, length of time he played and song selections. I would recommend seeing him if only to hear him play Cliffs of Dover.

  • Always a joy

I’ve seen Eric Johnson 5 times in the last year. Each concert was different & beautiful in its own way. I appreciate Eric playing in the smaller venues. And of course- I appreciate his talent & have enjoyed his music for decades now.
