About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

I love this kid! Second time seeing him. Traveled down from Ohio to see the show. It’s a good thing I was on the back row in front of the sound table because I did not sit down—danced all night.!!!! Thank you darlin for the one of the best shows I’ve seen—and I’m an d lady❤️😘

  • Marcus Great! Venue not so much.

by Craiggar on 1/2/25Hard Rock Live Bristol - BristolRating: 4 out of 5

Marcus and the band were wonderful and SO talented! The guest appearance from Marcus' father was beyond great! Would encourage anyone to go catch them live - will look for another location to go see them again. The venue (Hard Rock Bristol) is new and it shows - individuals running the cameras were not paying attention to the music, the sound mix was off, especially vocals, which were distorted in many instances. The entrance line for the venue extends into the Casino - so you get smoke filled area to wait in and the line extended in front of restrooms so lots of bumping and interference. I will also state that the price for concessions was ridiculous - yes I know you're a captive audience once you enter, but I travel to many concerts and the concessions was way overpriced with a poor selection (so my group passed).

  • Technical difficulties be damned.

by Zoom on 1/1/25Victory Theatre - EvansvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Despite fighting technical difficulties with the keyboards sound, Marcus and his band mates put on terrific musical display. The band are world class musicians and Marcus is a great storyteller. Go see them when you can.

What an amazing show. Marcus king is at the top of his game. His band are obviously skilled journeymen. What a pleasure to see.

  • Marcus was great….sound was average

by Soundman60 on 12/31/24Hard Rock Cincinnati Ballroom - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

Tell the sound engineer how to correctly utilize a noise gate on the Lesley speaker microphones. The 60hz was really bad! Especially, when Marcus was talking or anytime the B3’s channels were on and not being played. So obvious, not sure how that one got bye them. I have been to 10+ MKB shows and never heard it like that before. Still a GREAT Show!!

  • Loud

by Bighat on 12/31/24Hard Rock Cincinnati Ballroom - CincinnatiRating: 2 out of 5

First of all, we love Marcus King. We stayed for the first 40 minutes and had enough. It was so loud and unless it was a slower song his voice was muffled. As we were leaving we were asked why we left. We were told alot of people left because it was too loud. Disappointed.

  • Best show yet from MKB
