About

A singular figure in the Indian classical and progressive world music scenes, Anoushka Shankar grew up playing alongside her father and Guru, the legendary Ravi Shankar. In recent years she has emerged as a global music star, performing to worldwide adulation for her breathtaking sitar virtuosity and releasing numerous critically acclaimed albums.

Anoushka Shankar's music takes the ancient Indian instrument firmly into the contemporary world – into electronica, classical music and flamenco, collaborating alongside the world’s great orchestras with artists as diverse as Sting, M.I.A and Herbie Hancock.

Co-written by the extraordinary percussionist and hang player Manu Delago, her album Land of Gold, is a response to the humanitarian plight of refugees and a searing cry against injustice.

Be astounded by an evening of deeply expressive music, which draws upon India’s ancient culture, while creating a dynamically intoxicating sense of the contemporary.

“She’s one of the most gifted artists in her generation.”

Los Angeles Times

“A natural talent blessed with fluid technique and keen musical instincts, she possesses a darker, purer sound than her father (Ravi Shankar) but is clearly guided by his tutelage.”

The Birmingham News

“Most people are musicians simply because they play a certain instrument; when they plat that instrument the music appears. But Ravi to me, he is the music; it just happens to be that he plays the Sitar. And it’s like that with Anoushka. She has that quality – she is the music. “

  • Shanti, Shanti Shankar!

by Francis on 4/1/25Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was a glorious live rendition of much of the material in her last three releases ... Chapters I, II and III ... all of which I love! She also performed several other pieces, including her favorite Raga; an interpretation of a piece by the late Ravi Shankar, her father; and an instrumental version of one of her songs with Norah Jones, her sister. She and her phenomenal band delivered another evening of musical majesty and magic. The audience was so in synch, that for her opening number, "Offering"(from Chapter II), you could have heard a pin drop in the sold out, packed house. It, like most of the performance, was mesmerizing. My sister and I left the venue in a state of bliss, gratitude and deep peace (thus, my review's title). Thank you, Ms. Shankar, for another delightful evening. Can't wait until you return to The Town Hall/NYC to perform, again. 🙏🏽🕉☮️❤️

  • Use of app

by Dale on 3/31/25Town Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The transaction was excellent. Perhaps it's for security reasons. However, not to download the tickets, or only have them available shortly before the performance, and especially not to be able to print them out incase of a dead phone, seems not very useful. Thank you!

  • Surprising and wonderful

by djmo on 3/23/25Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic event. I was surprised by the different styles of Anoushka Shankar, from new age, to jazz to Indian classical. We enjoyed it all. She has incredible skills on the sitar, and I love her mix as a composer. The band is fantastic and performed with conviction and passion.

  • Anoushka Shankar - Seattle 3/13/2025

by ArubaJim on 3/17/25Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Ms. Shankar has amazing talent along with her accompanying musicians. She played a non-stop show for 1 1/2 hours and responded to the applauding from the crowd and played another song for the encore. Glad I was able to experience her world view of music. The Moore Theatre is an older setting, but line of site was fine and appeared to have enough bathrooms and bars. Don't highly recommend the pre-show "Moore lounge", can't watch show from this area or balcony nearby, however, there is a small bar for lounge folks which is easily accessible, the setup has several nooks and crannies to rest before the show and the biggest drawback is lack of 'lounge' restroom - that addition would make it worthwhile. Overall, glad I saw the show and tried the preshow experience.

  • Music for the soul ..

by AG on 3/16/25Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Very interesting compositions, especially the upbeat volume 3 album. Kids loved it too for it's energy and jazz/world sounds. Artist also connected well with the audience, add to it a beautiful theatre, it just was an amazing evening! Post show, their merchandize was already sold out which is likely a hiccup given their first tour location but sounds like a lot of fans left without token music.

  • My one mandatory ticket

    by fallboy52 on 3/16/25Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

She comes to Seattle every year and a half or so--I've seen her five times [the first time with her father's ensemble around 2003. She's a sublime performer and a terrific presence. She's now touring with a trio of musicians--conventional drum kit, stand-up bass, and clarinetist. Her work is constantly evolving, always new projects. She's a world-class talent.

  • Transcendent

    by fallboy52 on 10/20/23Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This was my fourth Anoushka concert. I will always go to see her. She is world-class--mesmerizing incredibly skilled, joyful, creating a new music with classical Indian scales and rhythms infused with the spirit of jazz improvisation and complexity. Her current group of musicians is the best I've seen--there's a full drum kit, plus a standup bass, her long-time player of Indian drums, and a world-class clarinetist. Don't miss the chance to see her if at all possible.

  • Ok, could have been better!

by NimSum on 5/25/23Alex Theatre - GlendaleRating: 3 out of 5

It was an honor to watch Anushka perform but a disappointment at the same time. She barely performed for 30 min and left. It seemed unorganized as she left stage couple times and came back. We enjoyed but another 30 min would have been well worth the 1.5 hr drive one way from OC!

  • Good

Good experience, wanted to more Anoushka, but she only played about 50 minutes.
