The Beaches in Concert
The Beaches were still in their late teens when they formed in 2013, but by that point, they were practically veterans already. The musical relationship between sisters Jordan Miller (vocals/guitar) and Kylie Miller (guitar) and their best friend Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums) dates back to their junior-high school days, when they formed their first band, Done With Dolls.
A glossy, Avril-inspired pop-rock outfit in Hot Topic clothing, Done With Dolls released their debut album in 2009 and became fixtures on The Family Channel thanks to their theme song for the sitcom ‘Really Me.' But before long, the girls were eager to start a new band that reflected their maturing musical tastes, which spanned 1970s new-wave pioneers like The Pretenders, 1990s grunge icons like Nirvana, and early 2000s garage-rockers like The Strokes. With the arrival of keyboardist Leandra Earl, the new group christened itself The Beaches, an ironic tribute to the genteel east-end Toronto neighborhood where the Millers and Enman-McDaniel were raised. After signing a development deal with Island Records in 2014, The Beaches ventured out to L.A. and began a long quest to find the right producer. Eventually, The Beaches found their dream team closer to home: fellow Torontonians Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, who brought their wiry indie-rock essence to The Beaches' swaggering 2017 debut album, ‘Late Show.' Powered by attitude-heavy tracks like the young ‘n' desperate rallying cry "Money" and the suggestive strut "T-Shirt," the album earned the band Breakthrough Group of the Year honors at the Juno Awards, as well as prime opening slots for heavy hitters like Eagles of Death Metal and Death From Above 1979. And as anyone who's seen The Beaches live can attest, the band have the vibrantly colored vintage clothes to match their glamtastic throwback jams.
The concert was even better then when I saw them in the summer. Great sound and great energy.
Saw The Beaches for the first time in Windsor. Doors open at 7. They had the merch we wanted in our size. Got to meet and hear a new Artist, to me, Alex Porat. She was amazing, the perfect hype up. The Beaches walked out on stage and the Coliseum lit up. Played all my favorite songs. My daughter and I never sat down. I will definitely be seeing them again. Thank you Ladies for an outrageous performance.
The band had great stage presence and the venue was perfect for a smaller band. The sound was great and enjoyed our seats!
They're so incredible live! I hope I get the chance to see them again and again!
The vibe and music were absolutely amazing. I haven’t enjoyed a concert this much in a very long time!
It was a fantastic show put on by the Beaches! I didn’t realize it was going to be as short as it was. When paying the astronomical amount that tickets are now a days, you expect the headliner to go on for at least an hour, but sadly the Beaches did not! Other than that they sounded amazing and I can’t wait to see them again.
What a HOT concert. I will go to any show they put on near me.
Great venue, great performance, great energy and an amazing night. Fourth time watching the Beaches and it won't be my last!
First time seeing them live! It was an amazing experience, despite the people in the seats near me were all fillers from the casino. They debuted their unreleased single, which I had a feeling they would do but it was incredible to hear it. I cannot wait to see them again! 😁
Amazing show! An inspiration to see these talented young women hit it out of the park. Beautiful voices, harmonies and great song writing and performances. Can’t wait to see them again.
